If a hospital ever exists in Heaven, Its name should be Dunedin Hospital
(Jiang Weimin)

I am interested in many aspects of cardiovascular medicine, especially valvular heart disease, but also ischaemic heart disease, cardiomyopathies, and atrial fibrillation.
To tackle these, I, along with collaborators, use basic science techniques in molecular biology and genomics, population based approaches, and advanced phenotyping techniques using echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI. We have started running clinical trials in-house, with the aim of developing therapies for testing in wider clinical settings.

My trip to New Zealand was my last stop on a trip abroad. At my age, I should have lived quietly at home, but the country I can't get around has kept wandering around in my mind. I remember seeing New Zealand for the first time in a picture book more than 50 years ago. I was fascinated by the country. The natural bays, the blue skies and the mysterious valleys kept flashing in my mind. So I decided I had to go to New Zealand once in my life.
New Zealand covers an area of about 270 thousand square kilometers, 2.1% of which is covered by water. It is 1,600 km long, 450 km wide at its widest point and 6,900 km long coastline. New Zealand is made up of the North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and a number of nearby small islands. New Zealand is known as "green." The territory is mountainous, with mountains and hills accounting for more than 75% of the total area. The two main islands (North and South) have an area of about 266,200 km2. The plains of New Zealand are small. The rivers are short and fast and inconvenient for navigation, but they are rich in water resources. The North Island is full of volcanoes and hot springs, while the South Island is full with glaciers and lakes. Peak Cook on the South Island is the highest mountain in the country at 3,754 meters above sea level. The coastline is about 15,000 kilometers long.
After more than ten hours of flight, the plane landed at Auckland Airport. When we got out of the gate, took our luggage, and everyone waited to get into the car. It was a little rain outside, and they all waited inside, looking around the hall. There was nothing fancy decorated, just an old plane dangling from the top of the hall. It felt very quiet in the hall, and the silence had a particular force that made one feel pressured. The bus arrived, loaded up, and boarded. The bus drove directly to an attraction, a hillside where you climbed a staircase to view the city of Auckland in full view. I walked back halfway and turned back to the bus to wait for everyone to come back.
We then visited the village of Waqare Valea Maori in Oakland, the hobbit village of Matamata, the location of the Lord of the Rings and Lord of the Ring, Lake Rotorua and the city of Oakland, before flying from Oakland to Queenstown on the South Island the following day.
Queenstown, New Zealand is a beautiful town surrounded by the Southern Alps and a beautiful city surrounded with the mountains. Queenstown is full of sightseeing spots. Summers are bright and blue, autumns are colorful with bright red and golden leaves, winters are sunny, there are large snowy mountains, and spring is a time of hundreds of flowers. The four seasons are distinct and have very different appearances. Lake Wakatipu, near the city, is a deep, blue mountain lake. Several green-brown mountains covered in snow dotted the splendid mountains in the background. From Queenstown to the top of the hill, it's a green, oily color. Queenstown got its name from the fact that the colonists thought the scenic area should be owned by the Queen, hence the name Queenstown.
Queenstown is an attraction I am looking forward to, because my close friend Shen Shiguang has told me about Queenstown many times, and he especially took photos of their hotel near the lake, saying that staying in this hotel offers panoramic views of Alpine Lake. So as soon as I got to Queenstown, I took several photos of the hotel in a row and sent them to Brother Shi Guang. On this day, we visited Queenstown. We took a cruise for more than an hour, arrived at a scenic spot, and had a good lunch there. I also watched a show of sheep shaving. In the afternoon we went back to town on the cruise and visited several of the town's attractions. Then we reached our hotel. We put down our luggage and went out with the group. By this time I felt tired and did not go out again, staying in the hotel alone. In the evening, I developed a swollen chest pain. At first I didn't take it too seriously and took a painkiller and rested. But in the evening I suddenly felt a little unable to breathe, so I called the guide and asked to see the hospital. Soon an ambulance arrived at the hotel. Two paramedics examined me, carried me onto a stretcher, and pushed me to an ambulance at the door. The car drove to the hospital in Queenstown. The doctors at the hospital immediately performed various tests, initially diagnosed heart failure, and then treated me with a bottle of medication. Until morning, the doctors told me that since Queenstown's hospital was a small hospital, they were going to take me to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter. So a helicopter arrived at noon and stopped on the lawn of the hospital yard. The doctors pushed me into the helicopter. The helicopter flew for about a few decades and landed on top of the building at the hospital in the southern city of Dunedin. The staff pushed me straight to the building's emergency room for treatment. After two days of observation, I was placed in a large ward.
I lay alone in my hospital bed, looking out the window at the cityscape of Dunedin. My mind slowly recovered. Perhaps it was a kind of telepathy - the large hospital room, The clean corridors, the medical staff check you in a methodical way, every once in a while there are nurses who check your blood pressure, blood sugar and other tests, and the staff who ask you carefully what you want to eat before dinner, all make you feel like home, warm, cordial and peaceful.
Soon my chief physician, Dr Peter McLeod, When she came to see me, she brought two trainees and nurses, listened very carefully to the trainees explaining my condition and asked me in detail about my current condition.
Dr. Peter is a tall middle-aged man who at first feels very fierce and handsome, but with a humble manner, a soft voice, and even a shy look from time to time, he appears both malely charming and highly cultivated. Soon, he came up with a detailed plan for my examination and treatment based on the various circumstances.
Every day or two, Dr. Peter comes to my bed to see me. A few days later my son Xiaohang flew to Dunedin, and Dr. Peter and Xiaohang discussed my condition in detail, analyzed my treatment and discussed my progress. As the treatment went deeper, my niece, a doctor in the United States, joined the discussion, Since the time difference was very different, I often had to make appointments for calls and meetings. Dr. Peter always made a serious appointment and detailed explanations about my condition and treatment plan, and listened very carefully and patiently to Dr. Shan. This out-of-town dialogue lasted several times, and I was truly touched by Dr. Peter's patience and sincerity. The more than a dozen days of treatment led by Dr. Pete led to a noticeable improvement in my physical recovery, and I thank him very much. Finally we finished taking our medication and were leaving the hospital. I wanted to see him, thank him, and take pictures with him, but he didn't work that day. I am very sorry to leave the hospital, but the image of Dr. Peter is in my mind. I am so grateful that I met such a professional and dedicated doctor at this special time. I miss him very much and look forward to seeing each other again one day.
During my more than a dozen days of treatment at Dunedin Hospital, I felt deeply the care and professionalism of the physicians and nurses in the cardiovascular department, which allowed me to recover in a very short period of time. It was a remarkable achievement for an elderly man in his late 70s, This speaks volumes about the high level of technical expertise of the physicians and nurses in the cardiovascular department, and I would like to thank Dr. Sean Coffey, Director of Cardiovascular Disease, for his wise leadership, which has enabled the entire department to give patients hope for health.

I would like to mention one more doctor, Dr. John Edmond, a cardiac radiologist, who remembered the day I was going to have a radiographic operation. Because I was unfamiliar with life, I was pushed into the operating room by the nurses. I was immediately greeted by several nurses and doctors who made various preparations for me, and who spoke softly and asked me how I felt. I felt a very kind and peaceful feeling immediately, and I was no longer afraid. With handsome humor, the imaging doctor transformed a serious operating room into a very relaxed and welcoming "sitting room," while he seriously sat in preparation. After giving me anesthesia, while relaxing and asking how I felt, I remember Dr. Peter sitting in a small windowed room looking at my imaging. They told me that things were better than they thought. I felt very comfortable with the imaging procedure.
I found the name of the anesthesiologist in the hospital window. I also included it in my article -

I would also like to mention the nurses, especially a male nurse. At first I didn't know, I thought he was a doctor, but judging by his care of me, I learned that he was quite a male. He was very cheerful and cheerful. He seemed to talk to me like he was my neighbor's big brother. From time to time, he came to make me coffee, measure my blood pressure, chat with me. I felt very kind. I happened to have a copy of my book in my hand and I gave it to him. He was very happy. He said I couldn't read it, but he would show it to his family and friends. Then we took a picture together.
But the doctors and nurses at the Nedin Hospital showed me so much enthusiasm, sincerity, care and help as a Chinese living in a foreign country. What kind of heart is that? What kind of a pattern is it? What kind of love is it?
They gave me a deep sense of humanism and a strong sense of human love. This great love transcends borders, races, and seas, demonstrating the kindness and compassion that humanity should all share. They are the embodiments and angels of love and compassion.

New Zealand, Australia was the last stop on my international trip. Unfortunately, I fell ill just a few days after setting foot in New Zealand, but this illness kept me in New Zealand for an additional month. During this month, I have deeply felt the beautiful country of New Zealand, and I have had extensive contact with people from all walks of life and felt the enthusiasm of the New Zealand people. Very simple, hospitable and kind. I felt the kindness of angels and the excellent professionalism in them, even though I was being treated in the hospital alone. But I didn't feel lonely. I could even say that I enjoyed the best health care system and the care and care of doctors and nurses. I was thinking that if there were hospitals in heaven, it would be like Dunedin Hospital. If my condition improves, I will visit New Zealand again. I also want to tell my friends that you may come to visit New Zealand because it is a beautiful New Zealand, a welcoming New Zealand, an loving New Zealand, and a New Zealand that makes you carefree.
